IELTS Speaking Part 2- Cue card round

The introduction round is followed by the cue card round. In this round,d a random topic is given by the examiner along with a pen and notepad to the candidate. The candidate then has one minute to prepare his/her thoughts on the given topic. After this, the candidate should be ready to speak for 1-2 minutes.T his round is followed by follow-up questions round also known as the discussion round. In this round the examiner asks questions related to the cue card topic. What should you talk about in the cue card round?

It might get difficult for candidates to structure good answers in just one minute. Introduction

People who are well-known throughout the world for their work are famous or popular.  They come from all areas of life such as politics, sports, music, movies etc. Here I am going to describe one such popular/well-known person in my country.

Who is this person?

The person I am going to talk about today is the legend of cricket MS Dhoni. Mahendra Singh Dhoni is a professional Indian cricketer. Born on 7 July in Ranchi, Jharkhand he is a small-town man who struggled his way through life to reach to reach the point he is at today.

What has this person done?

MS Dhoni is a battery and a wicketkeeper in the Indian cricket team. He is widely regarded as the most prolific wicketkeeper, batsman, and captain of India. India has played and won many international matches under the captaincy of MS Dhoni. He led India to victory in the 2011 Cricket World Cup, the 2007 ICC Twenty20, and the 2013 ICC Champions Trophy. He is the only captain who has won three different limited-overs tournaments.

Why is this person well-known?

This popular person is well known for his unorthodox captaincy and approachability and is known as India’s most successful captain. Dhoni is also known for his calm and cool-headed demeanour under stressful situations on the field which earned him the nickname ’Captain Cool’ by his colleagues and fans. He is a true inspiration to all aspiring cricketers in India.

Explain why you admire this person.

MS Dhoni is an idol and inspiration to many people including me. His ability to stay calm under stressful situations is a trait I desire. He has a charming and strong persona that is admired by everyone including his opponents. I admire MS Dhoni for his strong determination and all that he has done for my country. I feel blessed to live in the same country as him and would like to meet him someday.

Introduction

India is the second largest population in the world, hence it is home to many talents and famous individuals from all areas of life. But the most admired and hyped-about field of well-known persons is the film industry. Thank you for giving me these cue card questions as I am going to talk about a famous person in my country.

Who is this person?

The person I am going to talk about is an actress who is well-known in both the Indian and foreign film industry, Priyanka Chopra. Born on 18 July 1982 Priyanka Chopra is an actor, singer, producer, model and entrepreneur.

What has this person done?

Priyanka Chopra has given many excellent movies to the film industry in her career such as Barfi, Quantico,  and The white tiger. In the year 2015, Priyanka Chopra made history by being the first Bollywood actress to get a leading role in a popular American TV show, QuanticoShe also won the title of Miss World 2020. She is also a goodwill ambassador of UNICEF since the year 2016. Before that, she served as a national ambassador to UNICEF for 10 years. She has helped hundreds of people on her trip to northern Kenya.

What is this person well known for?

Priyanka Chopra is well known for winning the title of Miss India and Miss World beauty pageants in the year 2000. She also has a fashion doll created under her name and image. She faced a lot of setbacks in her career but she bounced back every time, finally achieving the same fame as she did in India. Apart from all these, she is admired by the masses especially women for her strong and boss-woman attitude. She is known for her highly logical and focused thinking towards her career and life. Not only she is a successful actress but because of her focus and determination, she is also walking on a path to becoming a successful entrepreneur.

And explain why you admire this person.

Priyanka Chopra is my ideal because of her beliefs and determination. I have not watched many movies of her but I have watched many videos of her encouraging and empowering women. Her belief that every woman should be financially independent is something that impressed me a lot. Despite being such a prolific actress and a successful business woman she did not forget her country and roots. In today’s world, where people have embraced Western culture completely, she included Indian wedding rituals in her wedding with her Christian husband. Despite facing criticism and backlash in the foreign industry she maintained our customs with such dignity that India is now looked at from a different perspective by foreigners.

Introduction 

India is a developing country where the internet and social media are used by 60% of the population. Social media has given a platform to many people to showcase their talents and hard work. It has also made many people famous.  For this cue card topic, I am going to describe one such popular person in my country.

Who is this person?

The person I am talking about is a famous YouTube personality Bhuvan Bam. He is a singer, writer and actor.

What has this person done?

Bhuvan Bam is a public sensation, especially among youth. He first got into fame through his humorous videos on YouTube.Later after receiving recognition he produced and acted in a few movies which were also highly praised by the public. He has a knack for comedy and storytelling that is unmatched in India to date.

What is he well known for?

Bhuvan Bam is mainly known for his comedy channel on YouTube.He was the first person to hit 10 million subscribers on YouTube.His comedy and sense of humor resonated highly with the youngsters of India. Apart from these he also writes and sings heart-touching songs. Bhuvan Bam is loved and appreciated by his fans for his kind nature as well. Many videos on the internet show his kindness towards people.

And explain why you admire this person.

I admire this person for his ability to connect with his audience and his determination to work hard. He started his journey in a room without any help.  He created videos using his phone while playing various characters, His hard work made him the successful person he is today. This is a major reason why I admire him.

1. In what ways do celebrities or famous people give back to the community?

Celebrities and famous people give back to the community in many ways.  Some give back by doing extraordinary work for the country while others run NGOs and charities to help those in need.

2. What are some negative effects of being a popular person?

In my opinion, one of the worst effects of being a popular person is they have no privacy left in their life. Everything becomes a snack for the public eye. This is something I do not like about being famous as privacy is important to everyone.

3. What is your opinion on children imitating their idols? 

In my opinion,  it is children to imitate their idols. The important thing is to choose the right idol. Their idol should possess all the good qualities such as a strong character, determination, and hard work do celebrities affect teenagers? 

To be honest, teenagers are affected by everything nowadays as all the information is available just a click away on their mobile phone. They get information from the internet and try to imitate it in their life irrespective of the quality of information. 

5. How do people become famous? 

People become famous for many reasons. One common reason among all is the quality of never giving up and working hard despite failures and setbacks. One had to be ready to work tediously to reach the horizon of success and become famous. 

6. Do you want to get famous? If yes then in which field would you like to gain popularity? 

Yes, I would like to be famous one day. I would like to be known popularly as an author.
