From 3 Nov 2025, student visa holders can work up to 25 hours per week instead of 20. Applies to new visa approvals.

Exchange and study abroad students now get in-study work rights. Previously available only to full-degree students.

NZ aims to grow student enrolments from 83,700 to 119,000 and double education’s economic contribution to NZ$7.2B.
