I was so disappointed with UTAS, I am a mature aged student and was eager but so anxious about beginning higher education. As I don’t have an organisation in my local area that offers counselling I chose UTAS for the flexibility to study online even though I knew this would be difficult. Having now dropped out and beginning my studies at another college I can now see how lacking UTAS was in providing me a passage of education. I now have so much support, a multitude of resources, caring and thorough lecturers and exceptionally well presented content and learning platform. These are all the things that I severely missed out on at UTAS where I felt I was just given the login, an “off you go” attitude and completely inadequate. I’m so grateful to have found a new college that has provided me with so much empowerment and support as I may not have ever recovered from the sense of inadequacy. Still so upset that I had wasted my money and time.

There are multiple reasons why I don't recommend going to this university. In the fees section for the courses it says "Fees shouldn't stop you from studying", whilst offering no actual cost. It's difficult to find even an estimated price for a course. In some areas casual staff have had hours reduced, resulting in less assistance and training for the students. For example, in the music courses, end of year performances had their times drastically reduced so they can reduce staff hours. Third year bachelor students (who in previous years had done thirty minute performances), were now only being allowed 15 minutes to showcase three years of accomplishment. In moving the campus, the school claims to increase access to education for students, but students who travel a great distance are now faced with expensive and reduced parking spots. UTAS suggests relying on the service of busses which are consistently unreliable, and some students reported their new study spaces and class rooms were cramped and had no access to natural light. Nonetheless UTAS believes the move is positive, as (in their words) they "deliver state-of-the-art facilities for students and staff and secure the University's financial future". In the high school connections program, they stated that completing four UTAS connections courses would earn you a diploma. After completion, and a great deal of phone calls, this turned out to be false. They explained whilst the units I had done were equivalent to a diploma, I could not claim this certification. I then had to pay to even have a record that I had completed those units. Students in Tasmania have no other choice if they want to physically attend university. UTAS is expensive for students, teachers have reduced hours, it's difficult to get to if you live anywhere beyond the schools doorstep, and communicating with admin is a nightmare. UTAS is providing terrible quality service and gets away with it due to their monopoly. But at least they have "secured the university's financial future".

I studied online and found it an absolute pleasure. The lecturer was professional, helpful, very informative and happy to help. The user interface was perfect everything worked smoothly. Not one issue at all! All assignments uploaded, pages scrolled and loaded well. Course content was really good. I highly recommend studying here.

The University of Tasmania’s Sandy Bay campus offers an excellent infrastructure, consistently ranked among the best in the world. The campus features various study areas, a well-equipped library, a museum, a gym, theatre and extensive sports fields. It also includes childcare services, several cafés, and spaces designed for both study and relaxation. With its stunning views of Sandy Bay beach, the campus is conveniently located between the Yacht Club and Hill Street Grocery Store. Additionally, there is a reasonably sized parking lot available for students, making it both accessible and well-rounded for academic and extracurricular needs. Uni Hopper is a shuttle service offered by the University of Tasmania to transport students between the campus and nearby accommodations. This service provides a convenient and reliable way for students to commute, ensuring they can easily access both their academic spaces and living areas without the need for personal transportation. It’s an excellent solution for reducing travel stress and promoting environmentally friendly transportation options within the university community.
