As it was 30 yeas ago when I attended, Truman is still the jewel of the Midwest. As an employer, I actively seek graduates because of the type of student and individual that Truman attracts. Having the opportunity to go to campus multiple times a year and getting to interact with students always leaves me impressed. The campus is amazing and really caters to the variety of ways students want to learn. The faculty is top shelf and are invested in seeing their students achieve. I would make the same decision today I did many years ago. Truman State!

Everyone there was very friendly and supported the special athletes

International Student here. Thought sky was the limit when I transferred. I was a D2 athlete for the school when they decided to cancel the athletes program. Pros: cheap. Tuition is affordable. Staff is easy to talk to and they do what they can to help students. Cons: False advertisement; no where near what they call ‘Harvard of Midwest’ Cheap; basically too cheap to a point that they have no resources. Students and their mental health are never given any proper attention. Look up what happened with AKL and what Truman did to follow up. Good professors leave for better paid programs and some of the professors don’t understand or try to understand kids. There is a clear language barrier. I thought I was the international student but some professors here don’t understand English. There are some professors like Dr. Gillette who are literally carrying the university on their backs. There are limited resources and almost everything has to be student funded. My school that I transferred from took us to Paris for a conference and took care of everything. During my time as a student athlete, the coach told us that we basically are responsible for our own even when it comes to traveling. Look up how many people finish their degree in 4 years! The school constantly reaches out to its alumni network for funding but the minute you graduate, there are no resources for jobs. And if you are an international student, you are doomed. You have to be the very best to get good opportunities. Many graduates from my batches are working jobs that didn’t require a degree. They say Truman prepares you for the world. It prepared students for poverty and depression. In all, it’s not a bad school if you are a nerd. It’s not a bad school at all. Just nothing as advertised and not even close to Mizzou, SLU or washu. Just be careful

I graduated with a B.S. in Communication back in 2018. I loved my Truman experience, and I think it runs analogous to Kirksville's motto "where the people make the difference." I love the professors and students that I met throughout my collegiate career. I also enjoyed serving in the local community and stayed away from the party scenes. Plus, I did all of that while working a great on-campus IT job that helped bolster my resume and allowed me to graduate debt free.
