If I could give them a zero I would. I think this is the worst university not just HBCU in the US. Lazy and unprofessional staff! Security is awful basically nonexistent. And the dumps they have these kids living in are worse than Anything I have ever seen. The worst, unclean outdated dorm rooms ever! Definitely don’t send your child here!

This place needs to be shut down for remodeling and a staff overhaul revamp! Nobody wants to work and do their job! Terrible communication with a staff that take two hour lunch breaks, and the kids can’t get them to do anything. The dorm rooms are just atrocious! They have these kids crowded in those dorms that need serious remodeling they are worse than public housing! Don’t even consider sending your child here!

if you are a student looking to go to college DO NOT GO to South Carolina State University. They made my life hell. the living dorms were horrendous. They don’t fix anything and if they do, It’s not fixed properly or the proper way. Also I’ve been having so much issues with FASFA and the financial aid office. They never pick up the phone. They never ever answer emails. Just the staff where is at the living is really not worth I mean the tuition and living is cheap but not cheap enough. This is got to be the worst HBCU there is do not come here. It will be the worst Experience you ever have

DO NOT SEND YOUR CHILD HERE!!! Horrible is an understatement when dealing with this university! Nobody does their jobs!! The level of security and safety for students are nonexistent! They trick the students into coming here by passing out the scholarships to only find out later that the scholarship doesn’t really cover everything they told you in the beginning. It started with them assigning my son a room then they switch that two or three times up until the time it was time to move. We find out two weeks prior that every room will be double bumped. Which they knew this information wayyy before. They just decided to wait to tell the parents at the last minute, so no one could back out and transfer somewhere else. They admit all these students and go around selling these students a lie to come to their university and then have nowhere to house them!!! They forced these Kids to live in a space that’s made for one. And then on top of that want to charge $2800 per bed. They want you to pay this for a rundown filthy ghetto, less than project quality living quarters. The dorms at this university is the worst I have ever seen, it’s worse than government housing. Then they expect the morale of the students to be high when they’re living in a dump, crowded unsafe unclean living quarters. I wouldn’t even allow my dogs to live in these dorms. and they want to charge all this money for these dumps!! The attitude of the workers are horrible and they’re very unprofessional. This place is so raggedy and rundown. It definitely needs to be shut down for renovations or just forgot about! Oh and not to mention a shooting on campus A dead body falling in front of your dorm room. How is that for security and morale!!!! Terrible just terrible!!!!

Wonderful school! Excellent President, Provost, Vice-Presidents and Deans. The faculty and staff are also well-qualified and very helpful. They graduate great alumni - Congressman Jim Clyburn, Army generals, and many, many others. They face funding and infrastructure challenges like many other schools across America, yet they move forward boldly. There is new construction everywhere. Send your child here. You will not regret it!

It was fantastic. I helped my Granddaughter move in. The room is small, but it had everything there. A bed, a desk and a side table for her clothes plus a wardrobe.

This school is highly unorganized! No one answers phone calls, emails or anything! They take your money then treat you like you’re a nuisance! Staff in the housing office is very rude! I would not recommend this HBCU

I am a very proud bulldog! This institution gave me so many great experiences, both educational and life. I am very appreciative to have had the opportunity to attend this university. I was a member of the Marching 101 Band, and a very active member in the University Bands, and my experience with that was memorable. Upon my graduation in 2016, people were calling me and I was immediately given my first position as an educator. I had many networking experiences while at South Carolina State University which has helped me tremendously for my career. Many of my professors were very close knit with me, and still stay in close contact with me, and vise versa. Despite what the media says about South Carolina State University, it triumphs through it all and has produced great alumni who are accomplishing and achieving outstanding goals. Signed, A Loyal Daughter.

I attended an event at SC State University, which the university did an excellent job hosting. Arriving early, I ate a delicious, very reasonably priced lunch at Washington Dining Hall.

I drove down from DC for the Bulldog Fest/Open House & TICKETS were a mandatory thing, LIES. Unorganized, late beginnings, instead of doing small groups for tours they separated the parents & children and the parents didn't get to tour. What us parents got was a mile walk from SHM to the Leroy Daniels Bldg but that was changed once we all walked up there, we were stuffed into an auditorium in the Engineering building with standing room only. This was not planned very well & had the left hand knew what the right hand was doing we would have simply been asked to move closer while in the SHM building but instead the poor communication ruffled feathers with myself & family members of other students. The Q&A was joke, too many unanswered questions which would make me not want to send my child to this "illustrious university" as too many put it. Upon returning from the student tour my son said it was a large & very ghetto campus and knowing him this wouldn't want to be where he laid his head every night because he wouldn't feel safe.
