The financial aid office never answers or returns calls, never replies to emails. It seems like they just don't want to do their job. Considering this is a school targeted for marginalized groups, you would think they would want to help in the financial aid side of things as that is typically a driving factor for students of color.

It's sad that a hbcu is being run like this . The like of authority on this campus is embarrassing. This is bad leadership on this campus. Never can get anyone to help with any problems from financial aid to housing problems. Savvannah lets do better. To think i encourage my child to attend a hbcu.

My son transferred to SSU mid-Spring 2025. There was a delay in processing his application because my son did not submit all of his documents timely prior to Thanksgiving Break 2024 (e.g., transcripts from his dual enrollment college, images of front and back license for verification of lawful presence, did not periodically check admission status and follow-up). After his emails to his counselor went unanswered for a week or so, he learned he was assigned a new counselor/advisor. After he made several calls to SSU admissions, one lady went out of her way to view his email transmissions, collect his last document (while on the call), and gave him his new counslor's name, email, and phone number. The "admit lady" told him to expect a call from the counselor within 48 hours; if not, call her (admit lady) back in Admissions. For my son, lesson learned. He stayed home during the Spring, took classes online during the last minimester (earned two A's), and is taking classes now in Summer school (I expect another set of A's). He is back on track academically and will move on campus in the Fall. He looks forward to the SSU experience and earning his bachelor's and master's degrees. A special thanks to SSU Admissions and Counseling.

Does anyone ever respond to emails or return phone calls? We have been trying to access our child's email since 4/25/25, put in a ticket with IT help desk on 4/28/25 and as of today no response. I have called and emailed on several occassions since and still no response. We're constantly receiving emails about applying for housing, financial aid award letter to confirm but how can we? We still can't access anything without our credentials?

Do not apply! Their application process is the worst that I have ever experienced. They do not follow up with the required information to assist the applicant with the process. I have made calls on a continuous basis, and it seems that you are a burden if you ask for assistance. Now, they are stating that I have to reapply by paying the application fee again and resubmitting everything again. No, thank you. I expected more and will not take part in anything that deals with this HBCU.
