I am an alumni of Royal Roads University and have always held deep affection for this campus — for its breathtaking beauty, the friendships I built here, and the wonderful professors who taught me. However, today I had an extremely disappointing and confusing experience that has left me questioning how visitors and alumni are treated. I was on campus taking engagement photos for a newly engaged couple. We were respectfully outside the castle and gardens, and I had already checked beforehand that a photography permit was not required for this kind of personal, outdoor session. Despite this, a security guard with a British accent approached us in a very rude and aggressive manner. He chased us down and even threatened to call the police if he caught us taking photos again. And meanwhile I saw other families and couples were taking photos with their phones. Shall I say this is a discrimination against my camera? Lol As someone who cherishes this campus and who took care to follow all guidelines, I found this behavior completely uncalled for and deeply upsetting. It’s sad to see such hostility at a place that once represented community, learning, and inspiration to me. I sincerely hope Royal Roads addresses this, so future guests, students, and alumni can be treated with more respect and understanding.

No comment about the university as a student or a school. Just a general comment about the campus and the grounds it is situated on. This is one of the most beautiful and unique places to visit. With a castle and amazing gardens you will be amazed. This is a great alternative to Butchart Gardens and is free. My wife and I love this place and definitely recommend coming here.

Royal Roads University campus park, located in Victoria, British Columbia, is a beautiful and historic site. The park is part of the Royal Roads University campus, which was originally constructed as a fort, a naval base, and later, a college for military officers' wives. The campus park is open to the public and offers a variety of features for visitors to enjoy. Some of the key features of the Royal Roads University campus park include: 1. Beautiful gardens: The park features a variety of gardens, such as the Heritage Garden, Rose Garden, and Japanese Garden, showcasing a diverse range of flora and landscaping. 2. Historic buildings: The park contains several historical buildings, including the Hatley Castle, which serves as the centerpiece of the campus. The castle was built in 1908 and is now used for administrative purposes, event rentals, and occasional public tours. 3. Nature trails: The campus park offers a network of walking and biking trails that provide visitors with an opportunity to explore the natural beauty of the area. 4. Waterfront views: The park is situated on the coast of Esquimalt Lagoon, providing stunning views of the water and surrounding landscapes. 5. Art installations: The campus park features various art installations, such as sculptures and murals, that add to its aesthetic appeal. As for how many sections the park has, it is difficult to provide an exact number without a specific layout or map. However, the park can be divided into several distinct areas based on its features, such as the gardens, the heritage buildings, and the waterfront. In terms of whether I recommend visiting the Royal Roads University campus park, I would say yes. The park is a great place to enjoy nature, history, and beautiful scenery. It is a perfect destination for a leisurely walk, a picnic, or simply to appreciate the beauty of the surroundings.

The gardens were closed when we got there and we missed the castle tour but Charlie’s Trail was an awesome loop. It was lush and magical even in the rain.
