I did a master’s here recently in the Humanities dept. I got a distinction (in no way thanks to the uni) so this isn’t sour grapes. The course was dull and poorly designed. The staff were largely so full of their own importance (why?!) that they seemed to think responding to emails or listening to the thoughts of students in seminars was beneath them. Maybe not all students, but certainly me at least. I took out a PG loan to do this course at 7% interest and am angered by how much the university and its lazy, uninterested staff (with two exceptions) fleeced me, saddling me with a debt for a course I ended up teaching myself. I have prior degrees from two decent unis so I know Man Met isn’t representative of the sector - it’s just plain rubbish. Absolute disgrace.

I attended Manchester Metropolitan University in 1999, and unfortunately, it was a disappointing experience. After two years, I transferred to another university where I earned a first-class degree, and student of the year, and got 98.5 percent average across my 9 subjects. The key difference was that my new university offered online lessons and fostered an inclusive environment, unlike Manchester Met, which still relied on paper and pens and discrimination. This is a little corrupt in my view. Manchester Met had an extremely challenging math test in the first year, which resulted in 85% of students failing. Despite the university securing funding for those students for three years, many didn't make it past the first year. I only passed because I had private tutoring, but most of my classmates were not as fortunate. Additionally, I faced significant issues with the course leader of consumer product course, she was having an affair with a student and would turn up in leather outfits on a Friday --- very odd now when I am a middle aged women. When I complained to her about the noise from a lift in my halls of residence affecting my sleep, to her she took a dislike to me. She retaliated by marking down all my assignments. My grades dropped from A's to C's simply because I voiced a concern. I hope she is not still working there. After transferring to my new university and leaving Manchester I earned a first-class degree and won awards. I have since worked for some of the largest companies in the world, serving millions in my profession and fame has come with this. I'm now in my 40s and reflect. And, realize what a strange experience it was. It's an experience I will never forget. My course was in consumer technology. I suppose a stepping stone to my success but a negative experience all the same.

The University is among the UK's leading Universities for study and research. It has a large campus with outstanding facilities providing students with high-quality courses and a great environment to improve their skills and capabilities. Additionally, there is great academic and personal support from lecturers and tutors. Recently, The Manchester Metropolitan University has been awarded a Queen's Anniversary Prize for Higher and Further Education. In 2022, the University's world-class new Institute of Sport which is currently under construction will also be ready. Manchester Metropolitan University is among the best European Universities.

I got knocked back from this university because of one tick box on the form, a piece of data collection that was in no way relevant to me, my profession or the course. I spoke to the lead for the ACP programme who was equally unhelpful and stood by her decision not to read forms but rather look at whether certain parts are ticked. So I think if they lack that kind of critical decision making, it’s probably best I chose elsewhere.
