Advising is horrible and the college is terribly administered. I was stuck with a chemistry advisor and they would not reassign me when I stopped taking chemistry classes. I graduated with a liberal arts degree and then immediately signed up for classes at the community college. I got an associates that I used to get me into a masters degree at a different college. I now work in management at a professional services firm where I make 6 figures. I have accomplished this all IN SPITE OF the time that I wasted at Ithaca College.

We enjoyed our time at Ithaca College during their Fall Open House. The campus is beautiful, the people are amazing and welcoming, and the music facilities are incredible. The landscape was gorgeous on our long drive to the college. Would be great for someone who likes a remote location.

At its best Ithaca College is serviceable and at worst Ithaca College needs to seriously rethink its strategy to attract prospective students. 1) The dorms are outdated and often lack any ventilation in the rooms leading to the room to either being freezing cold or sweltering hot. The heaters in the rooms randomly decide when they want to work and electrical outlets are in places no one can normally reach. The bathrooms also need work as do the students that use them. 2) The dining halls lack real variety and are mostly closed on weekends meaning good luck finding food like all the other 4,900 odd students. Even with recent changes, it feels like a bandaid to the problem rather than a step towards a solution. 3) The instruction and instructors can be a hit and miss with some who are too good at their job and others make you wonder why they even got the job. Some courses have no reason being optional while others will make you question whether a gap year looks cool. If you are doing business, film, journalism, photography, theater, or performance arts. this is your school. If you are doing anything else, it can be a hit and miss. 4) The rising cost of Ithaca College ( as with most institutions right now) makes community college and state universities look more and more favorable. If there is no quality of life improvements, there is no need to have a net cost slowly creeping up on Cornell’s net cost. The school is plagued by a history of questionable choices, over-expansion, and poor management. I can only hope the best for those who have to work here and don’t have a choice.

I was impressed by the staff when we visited, they were very welcoming and eager to help, we even got to meet with a department chair with a phone call when we realized we had signed up for wrong tour. Of course the beauty of the school is impressive as well.

1. Education wise I feel that my student made good choices when possible when talking to instructors and fellow students who had advise on which instructors are worthwhile. 2. Cost: as others have written, the cost keeps increasing and now is getting to be at the same level of a University. 3. Meal Plans: "Spendy" with questionable value. As time and experience moved on, we moved to more basic option, when it offered a quick solution without having to travel off campus. 4. Housing is dated, and in some cases not well ventilated. 5. FEES: This place is like a HOA which will fee you to death. Besides having to pay for parking, even if you help peers move and leave the car for 5 mins, a ticket, from what I have heard from others the campus police seem to focus more on ticketing then anything else. 6: FEES: Part 2.0. Late fees, even a min late to a day late, there is ZERO flexibility, now they will not even consider a post mark. Funny the IRS will even give you that bit. 7.Finance office is useless: On many occasions myself, student, or former wife will call or email, and seldom get any response. 8. Overall my student is happy with most things, but keep in mind my and other reviews when considering this choice. Spend your money wisely...
