I am saddened to read the negative reviews posted here about Houghton College, as I don't think they reflect the reality our family has experienced. My son is in his third academic year there and our family wholeheartedly gives Houghton a five-star rating. The small class size is a real plus, in that the professors are able to give personal attention to each and every student. We have found the staff to be highly professional and supportive in all regards. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this college to anyone seeking a Christ-centered education for their children or for themselves.

Houghton is such a great college! I'm thinking about going there in the fall. Not only is the campus beautiful but the professors and admission counselors are very helpful and care about you. At this college you will not only be able to further in your career, but with your walk with Christ. I would recommend anyone to go to Houghton or at least, take a tour and visit.

We stayed at Houghton for a week of camp with our church's Student Ministry. The staff was incredible there right down to the dorm cleaning staff, who would take the time to stop and have a meaningful conversation with you. Some of the food was incredible. The campus is beautiful, and just the right size. Both of my kids have talked about going there when they graduate.

Wasted a year here. Such a backwards place in the middle of nowhere. So close minded and controlling. Such a traumatic place for LGBTQ people, whom many of my classmates were. Not a safe place for young adults to explore who they are. Poor student life activities. Music program was also very very limited and no musical theater or jazz programs. No dancing allowed and no visiting with friends of the opposite sex in dorms.

Transferred after spending 2 years here. Wouldn’t recommend it. Here’s my breakdown: 45% of people are not truly Christians and are there just for the decent price or sports programs 45% of people consider themselves devout Christians but are judgmental terrible people 5% of students and faculty are truly great people and inspirational Christians Unfortunately the 5% doesn’t make up for the terrible food, few course offerings, outdated and small dorms, and overall draining atmosphere. Most of my peers agreed that Houghton is steadily going downhill. The administration is terrible too. Horribly strict rules that will suffocate you.
