A horrible, expensive mistake. Don't do it.

Be very careful of this University. Extreme variation in quality of instructors and advisors. I have a friend who has been working on her doctorate for 4 years. Her advisor is apparently too busy with other students to assist her on dissertation in any reasonable time frame. Seems like they try to string you along to get more outrageous tuition.

As an alum and now media psychology faculty, I am saddened by bad reviews that have such narrow criteria. Fielding is a unique place for adult-learners who want to follow their passion with the academic rigor and faculty support of a brick-and-mortar institution combined with the flexibility of a hybrid environment so they can balance work, family and education. It is demanding, for sure. It requires self-direction and motivation. Not everyone wants to work that hard. But students in the Media Psychology Program will benefit from the support of a world-class faculty who cares about and respects them and is committed to equipping them with the skills to become both scholar and practitioners. It's recommended for mature audiences with the discipline to connect with faculty & mentors alike, who are spread around the world in different time zones with vastly different experiences. It propelled me into a world of speaking engagements, panel discussions, presentations and most recently authoring a book on the psychology behind AI. From Damascus to LA to Reunion to Okinawa, the interactions continue to open a transformational universe of learning when you decide to take the leap and do the work.

Loving my PhD student experience!! Fielding offers a unique opportunity to engage with faculty and class mates from across the world using a flexible online format. I am pursuing my doctoral degree in Human Development, so I cannot speak to the experience in the Psychology department which I believe is very popylar. But, I have had chances to speak with and meet students from across the university at live online community events and at the in-person summer "global sessions" (optional for Human Dev. students). The courses are fascinating, well crafted, and engaging. But, if you don't like a course there is lots of chances to switch out/swap/drop. You can easily access faculty and develop meaningful relationships, which really can help shape your intellectual and professional journey. Also, lots of diversity amongst my classmates (age, gender, sex, culture, ideology, race, etc.) which I value.
