Financially- It's pretty cheap for a 4 year university. Some people come from out of state because it's cheaper than being in state at a university from where they're from. Academically - Not very challenging. If you made it through high school, you shouldn't have a problem here. Not as many majors offered here opposed to going across the state to somewhere like SDSU. Socially - It's South Dakota, what do you expect? Not diverse. Small town mindset from many of the locals here. Small college town that is very quiet during the weekends. If you're younger than 21, good luck finding a job and something to do. Overall - 3/5 stars. Not horrible, but not as fun as I hoped.

We always drive through here when we are back in the hills. My boyfriend went here and is so amazed at all the great improvements they have made since he graduated! The stadium is gorgeous and the campus is very well kept. In addition to being cute, its a great institution. My boyfriend always speaks fondly of his time there and is still in contact with a few professors and he graduated about 10 years ago. Additionally, he ended going to Mayo for Physical Therapy school. So I would say Black Hills state did a great job prepping him for life and his career

It's clean and the students at the front desk are very helpful and friendly.

Very nice college. More for athletics than anything but really good programs.

Very impressed!!! They are clearly focused on not only education but connections, experiences, relationships, safety, and student well-being. I feel very comfortable sending my daughter there!
