Note: If anyone from 3iS is reading, please see paragraph 6. I studied at 3iS from the year 2024-2025 as a first year BAFTV (international programme) student. I am writing this review to express my deepest disappointment in essentially all facets of this institution. Upon researching 3iS, I encountered endless negative reviews. This was initially off putting and rather alarming, but as a motivated and hardworking student and filmmaker, I believed that your own efforts are what translate to your success in school and in filmmaking. I wrote these negative reviews off as students who were not willing to put in the work. I quickly discovered that this was not the case. Within the first week at 3iS, I experienced what would be a warning as to what was to come throughout the rest of the programme. The welcome team, responsible solely for our small group of international students was consistently disorganised and tardy. After scheduled classes had begun, things were, if anything, worse. Teachers consistently showed up late — or not at all. The central scheduling system which the school used was nothing short of incompetent. It frequently displayed incorrect information, misleading students and teachers alike. In terms of grading, we rarely received grades in a timely manner, if at all. To give a personal example, I once received a grade for an exam which I did not take, as I was absent. This grade happened to be significantly higher than those of my peers who actually did attend the exam. This is of course an insult to the students, but more importantly a testament to 3iS’s incompetency. When deciding on which film school I wanted to attend, the primary factor was a curriculum with a practical filmmaking emphasis, as well as access to high end equipment. It quickly became clear to me upon beginning the school year that 3iS had no curriculum to begin with. There was no place to access any of my courses’ outlines, as they did not exist. I attended classes that felt improvised and completely uncoordinated with one another. At minimum, a school should be able to provide students with clear course outlines, yet this was nowhere to be found at any point in the year. Unfortunately, with the school experiencing their third programme director within one year, I doubt that their organisation will improve in the future. In terms of equipment, we were limited to cameras made for television, which in the context of cinema were completely impractical and outdated. For context, these cameras were far inferior to the average consumer camera that most students already had. To add insult to injury, we were forbidden from using our far superior personal cameras in our most important projects, being forced to use the school’s subpar and often faulty equipment. In fact, on the second day of the final project I was working on, our camera batteries and charger ceased to work. We were far from the only groups to have issues with faulty or missing equipment. Students are essentially paying upwards of 10,000 euros to be creatively and technically limited. As for the administration, their complete disregard for students was immediately apparent. Far too often were my emails and the emails of my peers completely ignored. It so happens that I am currently awaiting a response from the administration at this very moment, regarding my two deposits for the school residence and for the equipment. If anyone from the 3iS administration is reading this, I would greatly appreciate a response to my email regarding the reimbursement of my two safety deposits (none of which were used). Ultimately, I am immensely disappointed with what I would have hoped to be an enriching 3 years of learning and filmmaking. I truly hope that my feedback is taken and applied into bettering this institution for future students, as I wish they could one day have the experience I hoped for.

Ever since our main teacher Sylvain Bonnet joined 3iS, the school has seriously leveled up!

I love how 3iS turns you into a professional in the 3 years; feel, I’m able to work in cinema and TV right after the graduation. In my international section, we learned to be camera crew, producers, editors, writers, directors. Many our teachers also teach in the other best film schools of France. They don’t break our nervous systems with rough criticism; refer to us, as professionals, but being kind and supportive (how it should be) Even though I’m very shy to talk to people, I got some friends and teachers showed interest to read my screenplays and see my works later on. Maybe, I’m lucky, but for me studying in 3iS, it was mostly good experience. Merci ?

Giving one star because zero isn't possible. DO NOT study here and if you're an actor DO NOT do castings for their projects. Disgustingly disorganized, disrespectful casting process whereby the actor is taken on the ultimate ride of being asked to do multiple castings in person and having their time completely wasted after being given the impression they have the role through the language the students use in their emails. 1st year students are not guided by a teacher, creating a chaotic mess where they conduct castings in a restaurant (which is initially communicated as a 'meeting' of the team after congratulating you on the casting), so you have no idea you are attending an actual casting when you arrive! Then you are filmed having to act the script which is my case was an intimate scene INSIDE the restaurant. Absolutely horrible. I sent a complaint to the students who took absolutely no responsibility for their lack of respect. I also sent a complaint both to the school and the head cinema professor, who refuse to respond to my complaint at all. I called the school 3 times asking for a response, still nothing over 3 months after sending. Only excuses saying they were 'busy'. You'll notice the school wrote a response to me (below) within literally a few minutes after I published this complaint. Having the audacity to ask me to please send them an email so I can gain a more 'personalized' response. I sent them 2 emails and called several times over 3 months ago and they never responded ONCE. This shows how the school is completely dysfunctional.

I'll post a much more in-depth review later, but, for now, know this: This is probably one of the worst educational institutions in the whole of France, if you can even call it educational. The domain it's in is also one of the most unstable and unlucrative that exists. The people that study and work in this industry believe themselves to be gods while doing absolutely nothing themselves. Actual technicians will be looked down upon by people in Production, which is essentially just management. I wish I could get the 4 years I spent here back. Most of the stuff I learned in film was by practicing by myself at home. I also saw a bunch of xenophobia here. Especially against the Vietnam and Chinese people. I was also victim of xenophobia in my first job I got. Going to sue them now. Run away from this school and from the film industry! They'll promise you that you'll find a job and career if you keep going. I kept going and never found it! I once even stood up for a friend that was being bullied, they then all excluded me from networks. Gave people rides for free with my car during projects too, to no thank you. Awful people. The school also promised to help me find work after I contacted them. They never sent a single message nor offer. THEY DO NOT CARE ABOUT YOU HERE!
