Tongarewa Scholarship for International Students

The Tongarewa Scholarship, given by the New Zealand government, is a very high-level award for outstanding international students who want to study more in the country. Eligibility Criteria

The main eligibility criteria, among others are:

• International students paying full tuition fees

• Starting the first year of UG or PG program

You are NOT eligible for this program if you have:

• completed your secondary education at a New Zealand school

• completed the English for Academic Purposes (EAP) or Foundation Studies Programme

• are a Study Abroad or Twinning student from one of our overseas partner universities

• are in your second year of study in the same degree programme at Victoria University of Wellington.

Application Process

The application process for Tongarewa Scholarship involves:

• Enrolling in a full time course at a University in New Zealand

• Complete the scholarship application from the website

• Upload all the required documents

• Submit a research paper if applicable

• Record and submit a short video introduction

• If shortlisted you will be required to attend an interview

• If selected you will be notified. 

• Accept the scholarship formally before the deadline
