Legal Studies

Specialization

A Master of Studies in Law (MSL) is a master's degree provided by some law schools to students who want to study law but do not want to practice law. Master of Studies in Law programs usually last one academic year and follow a curriculum similar to that of first-year Juris Doctor students. However, they may allow for additional specialization. This degree may also be called a Master of Science in Law, Master of Legal Studies, Juris Master, Master of Jurisprudence, or Master of Law.

Scope & Opportunities

Master of Studies in Law students can study constitutional law, torts, contracts, civil procedure, and other requirements with regular law students, completing the same papers and exams. However, students typically graduate with two semesters of credit rather than six.
