About the Course

There are several countries that are offering you Computer Science and IT programs around the world. Germany and the UK were already popular. However, some nations are amongst the emerging study abroad destinations for Computer Science. They are Singapore and Hong Kong. The course structure for computer science differs from country to country. Some countries use the term Information Technology for their Computer Courses, while others use Computer Science studies as a broader term. 

Some of the topics that you will be covering in the course include computing fundamentals, algorithms, machine learning, artificial intelligence, and software engineering, to name a few. If you are studying Computer Science at the Bachelor level, it may take three to four years. Additionally, the Masters course takes about two years. Transfer students or those joining the accelerated programs, can complete the course earlier. In the first year, you will get an overview of all the topics. From the second year onwards, you can choose your specialization. You also need to submit a project at the end of the course. 

General Entry Requirement

For admission to a Computer Science program, most universities and colleges look for a background in Mathematics and Physics. A background in natural sciences may also prove useful to make you understand how human process information flows. For undergraduate programs, students who have a knowledge of any of the programming languages, like Python or C++, have an edge above the others. 

Students are required to be well-conversant in technology-based subjects at A level. Some universities also take in BTECs. Moreover, some universities need you to pass five GCSEs with a grade of C/4.  Then there are universities that ask for B/6 in Math. Many universities also ask for International Baccalaureate. 

You must also be proficient in the English Language. IELTS and TOEFL are the top English proficiency tests that you need to pass with 6.0 or above to make it abroad. What Courses are Available?

Some of the top specializations in Computer Science abroad are Artificial Intelligence, Forensics, Computing, and Informatics. You should focus on any of the above areas. You can join a Computer Science program at various levels. Moreover, there are undergraduate programs, postgraduate programs, certificate programs, and diploma programs as well. At the undergraduate level, you can study BSc or BEng. The course takes 3-4 years to get completed. 

After you graduate, you can go for the MSc degree as well. It may take one or two years to get completed. After completion of the Master’s degree, you can go for MPhil, or PhD., in Computer Science. Some universities and institutions offer dual certifications as well. Some of the subject combinations include Computer Science and Engineering Technology, Computer Science and Physics, Applied Sciences and Engineering and so on.
