How New Zealand Is Making Study Abroad Easier in 2025

Announced on 14 July 2025, NZ's “Going for Growth” plan aims to double its international education sector by 2034.

From 3 Nov 2025, student visa holders can work up to 25 hours per week instead of 20. Applies to new visa approvals.

Work Hours Increased to 25/Week

If your visa was approved before 3 Nov, apply for a variation of conditions or submit a new visa. Standard INZ fees apply.

Exchange and study abroad students now get in-study work rights. Previously available only to full-degree students.

Short-Term Students Can  Work Too

A short-term post-study work visa will allow diploma and certificate grads to work under the AEWV pathway. Launching soon.
